ICP DAS tGW-715i-T

The tGW-715i-T is a tiny Modbus TCP to Modbus RTU/ASCII gateway that enables a Modbus TCP master to communicate with Modbus RTU/ASCII serial devices through Ethernet network, which eliminates the cable length limitation of serial devices. It can be used to create a pair-connection between serial devices over serial cabling for a serial-bridge or serial-tunnel application. It can route data over TCP/IP between two Modbus RTU/ASCII serial devices, which is useful when connecting mainframe PC's, servers or serial devices that communicate over Modbus RTU/ASCII protocols but do not have Ethernet capability. It can be Powered over Ethernet or through the terminal block with 12-48VDC power input.

Modbus has emerged as a prevailing industrial communication protocol, widely adopted for connecting various electronic devices in industrial settings. It facilitates seamless communication among multiple devices within an RS-485 network, enabling tasks such as temperature and humidity monitoring, with data transmission to a central computer system. Particularly, in supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, Modbus serves to link supervisory computers with remote terminal units (RTUs).

The tGW-700 serves as a crucial component in this ecosystem, functioning as a Modbus TCP to RTU/ASCII gateway. This device facilitates communication between a Modbus/TCP host and serial Modbus RTU/ASCII devices over an Ethernet network, overcoming the limitations of cable length inherent in traditional serial communication setups. The module supports various applications such as pair-connection, serial-bridge, or serial-tunnel applications. It efficiently routes data over TCP/IP between two serial Modbus RTU/ASCII devices, catering to scenarios where mainframe computers, servers, or other serial devices reliant on Modbus RTU/ASCII protocols lack Ethernet capability.

The read-cache feature enhances operational efficiency by storing previous requests and responses in the tGW-700 module's memory buffer. Consequently, when HMI/SCADA master controllers resend identical requests to the same RTU slave device, the cached response is promptly retrieved, significantly reducing the load on RS-485 bus communication. This not only ensures faster TCP responses but also enhances system stability.

Moreover, the tGW-700(Non-T) module offers IEEE 802.3af-compliant Power over Ethernet (PoE) functionality, adhering to Class 1 classification standards. It can receive power through a standard category 5 Ethernet cable from a PoE switch like the NS-205PSE, eliminating the need for additional power sources. Alternatively, it can also accept power input from a DC adapter in scenarios where PoE switches are unavailable. Designed for ultra-low power consumption, the tGW-700 module helps mitigate costs associated with rising fuel and electricity prices, particularly in installations with numerous modules. Opting for energy-efficient equipment not only reduces electricity consumption but also contributes positively to environmental sustainability efforts.
